After nearly a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, states resumed their annual process of reassessing Medicaid eligibility for all enrollees on April 1. While this move aimed to ensure that only those who qualify continue to receive Medicaid benefits, it has led to some unintended consequences. As of now, more than seven months into redetermination, more than 10 million Medicaid beneficiaries have lost their coverage according to the latest KFF data. Most disconcerting is that most of them have been disenrolled primarily due to procedural issues such as outdated contact information.
Engaging an individual healthcare consumer to take a specific desired action can be a formidable task.
