If there’s anything that we learned in 2020 and 2021, it’s the importance of being proactive. We understand better than ever that healthcare is dynamic, and our approach can’t be static if we’re going to succeed. We need to prepare to learn, plan, and actively adapt to be resilient. As we reflect on the peaks and valleys of the past HEDIS® season and look at what’s to come for MY2021, being proactive is the number one best practice from our most successful plans.
Aligning on changes to the HEDIS calendar
Historically, HEDIS measures were released months after the start of data collection. At that point, half of the year was over before plans were sure of what information would need to be reported on. With so many annual exams traditionally taking place early in the year, opportunities to engage members to close gaps in care were missed with this schedule.
All plans will now have a chance to assess changes and proactively adapt strategies with the HEDIS calendar released by NCQA last year.

Actively planning in the off-season
Updates to key dates mean that plans now receive measures 11 months earlier, providing extra time to investigate and close gaps in care. With vendor certifications set to be approved in October, rather than the usual February, the shorter off-season means health plans have a surplus of time to actively plan and begin their HEDIS projects well in advance of the June submission date. This schedule also allows for Cotiviti clients onboarding in MY2021 to our new user application, Quality Reporter Web (QR Web), to budget appropriate time to take the extensive available trainings and practice in their demo environment.
