While many employers are focused on helping their employees cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to manage opioid abuse and addiction continues to remain strong. At the Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) 2020 Annual Meeting held in May, Cotiviti’s Jamie Jenkins, senior program manager, and Jennifer Ach, director of clinical insights, explained how employers can draw insights from aggregated claims data, which can help identify which of their employees are most at risk for opioid abuse at the population level.

Read the coverage of their session in Pharmacy Times for more information about the role employers can play in managing the opioid crisis, including:

  • Identifying the most frequently diagnosed conditions for which opioids are being prescribed
  • Stratifying employee populations with a relative risk score
  • Differentiating the costs of employees who have moved from an opioid dependence to an opioid remission diagnosis
  • Using the PQA opioid core measure set to identify employees at increased risk of opioid use disorder, overdose, or death
